Shadwell Opera have worked on Janacek's dramatic song-cycle, Diary of One Who Disappeared. This saw brothers Sam and Jack Furness working together for the first time in six years, alongside Finnegan Downie Dear and Angharad Lyddon.
Diary of One Who Disappeared tells the story of a young farmer who falls in love with a 'gypsy girl', and runs away from his life and family to be with her. Now more than ever this enigmatic tale of cross-cultural love is fascinating and pertinent.
The piece was performed in a translation by the late poet Seamus Heaney.
